Archaeological monitoring was undertaken in advance of a proposed development site at Station Road, Lusk, Co. Dublin (ITM 721725, 754348). A desk-based study and site inspection were undertaken in October 2022 by Aidan O’ Connell while test excavations were undertaken in October 2023 by Maeve McCormick under licence no 23E0906. Monitoring of topsoil stripping under licence 24E0125 took place on 16–19 April 2024.
The area of investigation is comprised of a small site (c. 790 sq. m) currently occupied by a single dwelling. There are no recorded archaeological monuments listed within the site, which is located c. 85m east of a medieval monastic precinct. However, the site is located within the zone of archaeological potential around Lusk (DU008-010) as defined by the Urban Archaeological Survey (Bradley & King 1988) and the Record of Monuments and Places (NMS 1998).
Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded in the subject area during the desk-based assessment, test excavation and monitoring of topsoil stripping. There is no potential for the continued survival of buried archaeological sites or features within the site.
