Test excavation was undertaken on the 22 March 2024. 4 test trenches were excavated across the site totalling 452 linear metres. The location of test trench T1 was altered due to presence of large trees; the length of the trench was preserved. No other constraints were present. Trenches were placed to assess the general archaeological potential of the site.
Across the site topsoil was recorded as heavy humic light brown silty-clay. The depth of the topsoil was quite universal across the site (0.4-0.5m). The underlying subsoil comprises heavy clay, waterlogged in some locations.
There were no features, archaeological or otherwise, noted within excavated trenches. Minute amount of animal bone was noted within the topsoil.
Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered in the course of the works.
