This archaeological impact assessment was undertaken at Adamstown, Doddsborough, Co. Dublin. The licensed test excavation was undertaken on 26 February 2024.
A total of 4 trenches were excavated across the site (248 linear meters). The same layers were noted across the site in all the trenches with varying depths. A thick layer of modern spoil (C1) was dumped across the site and levelled in recent times. This varied in depth from 0.5m at the south of the site to 1.4m deep at the north. This overlay an original ground surface (C2) comprising smelly organic matter measuring 0.1-0.3m. Subsoil (C3) comprised a light orange-brown clay with occasional stone inclusions.
Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered in the course of the works.
