Archaeological test trenching was carried out ahead of a proposed development at Drumnigh Road, Portmarnock, Co. Dublin. Seven test trenches, measuring 465 linear meters, were excavated across the footprint of the proposed development.
Topsoil and occasional grass sod were removed and lay directly above a sterile, natural subsoil, which consisted of a light brown clay with occasional to moderate amounts of stone. Topsoil ranged in thickness from 0.17m to 0.25m, with only modern waste and demolition debris contained within.
No archaeological features or artefacts were identified during the course of this investigation. As a result, the site is now considered as having no archaeological potential. All site investigations are now complete and no further mitigation is required.
