Archaeological test-excavations were conducted in relation to the proposed construction of a dwelling house at Faugher, Portnablagh, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal.

The wider proposed development site is the recorded current location of a bullaun stone (DG016-025---), and the associated Zone of Notification covers the majority of the site.

The test-excavation was carried out on 14 October 2024. Testing comprised the excavation of three trenches measuring 15m in length, 1.6m in width, with a maximum depth of 0.6m.

The sod layer measured 0.1m in depth, overlying a topsoil layer c. 0.5m in depth which comprised a dark brown, soft compacted clayey-silt with a moderate amount of small sized sub-angular stones.  The natural subsoil layer comprised a compact orange-brown clay with a frequent amount of white shale-like material and a frequent amount of red brown slate stone.

No archaeological finds features or deposits were identified during testing.
