Archaeological supervision of topsoil stripping was undertaken on the footprint of a proposed dwelling on 4 March 2024. The topsoil consisted of a dark brown clayey silt with an average depth between 0.3–0.5m, gradually increasing in depth towards the northern and south-eastern limits of the development. Occasional modern refuse, bricks, and late post-medieval/20th-century ceramic sherds were observed within the topsoil. The underlaying natural subsoil was a mottled orange-brown and light brown sandy clay with frequent medium and large sized sub-angular stones, including pockets of naturally decayed stone.
No features, or deposits of archaeological consequence were identified during this programme of archaeological monitoring.
