Archaeological Monitoring took place in May to July 2024 as part of a major watermains upgrade project being carried out by Contractors working on behalf of Uisce Éireann, along the southern quays in Cork City.
A little more than 1km of new watermain was installed within the Zone of Archaeological Potential for the Historic town of Cork.
Several stone-built culverts and fragments of four stone wall foundations were noted on Sullivan’s Quay, but in the main, the route of the pipeline traversed ground heavily disturbed by the installation of previous water, wastewater, gas and telecoms services.
No medieval or earlier finds, features or deposits were noted during the course of the archaeological monitoring.
