The archaeological excavation of features uncovered during predevelopment archaeological testing under licence number 23E0935 (Carroll 2023) took place between 30 July and 9 August 2024 under licence 24E0695. The archaeological excavations at the proposed quarry extension at Dromkeen, Innishannon, Co. Cork, revealed nine linear features. Two of the features (C003 and C005) were located in the western part of the proposed quarry extension in Area A, and seven linear features (C007–019) were in the eastern part of the proposed extension (Area B–F). C003 and C005 are visible on the First Edition 6” historic map as a field boundary.
Retrieved pottery would indicate that the excavated linear features are agricultural in nature, infilled during the 19th to 20th century.
