Monitoring of topsoil stripping of a single house development site at Nooan, Ruan, Co. Clare, encountered nothing of archaeological significance.

The development site is located approximately 2.3km south-south-west of Ruan village, west of Ballygriffey Wood and south of Lough Reagh. The site is on the eastern side of an area of pasture surrounded by forestry plantations, with areas of exposed karst limestone bedrock present in the wider landscape. The access route to the development site passes through the Zone of Notification (ZON) for earthwork CL025-146 and lies approximately 54m west of the ZON for ringfort (cashel) CL025-147001 and its associated hut site (CL025-147002). Topsoil was typically 0.2m or less thick and overlay very frequent broken limestone and limestone bedrock that was interspersed with light greyish-brown clay (glacial till).
