Monitoring was undertaken of a proposed development at Bushypark Addiction and Treatment Centre, Bushypark, Ennis, Co. Clare. Bushypark House is a late 18th-century Georgian house, built c.1770, which was converted in 1990 for use as an addiction treatment centre. The house is listed on the Record of Protected Structures for County Clare (RPS No. 044). The development includes extension to the house and development of a new car park.
Monitoring was concentrated on the car park area and the area directly behind the main house where services such as water pipes were excavated and relocated. Monitoring of topsoil stripping revealed that topsoil, typically 0.1-0.4m thick, directly overlay natural subsoil comprising pale grey-white to mid-orange glacial till and limestone bedrock.
No archaeological features or deposits were observed on the site during monitoring. The site had been altered during the 19th and 20th century by agricultural practices relating to drainage, where rough stone drains were constructed to lead water away from the higher locations in the car park area. The drains uncovered during monitoring were silted up and frequently ended abruptly when encountering bedrock, which lay close to the surface sporadically in the location of the carpark.
