Archaeological test trenching was carried out at this site. Five out of the ten proposed test trenches were excavated within the site. Due to sinking wet bogland, Trenches 6-9 could not be excavated, and Trench 10 was located within a working
farmyard, where the development will store cabins and will not disturb the ground. The footprint of the proposed development and associated groundworks informed the location of the remaining test trenches. Each trench measured 1.8m in width, and a total of 565m of linear trenches were excavated. The test trenches were excavated down to the natural subsoil. The topsoil on the south side of the fields consisted of sandy clay, and on the north side of the field, it was a soft, wet brown peat beneath reeds.
No structures, features or deposits of archaeological significance were identified within the trenches.
