Pre-development archaeological test trenching was carried out within the southern portion of Cavan Burren Geopark, Co. Cavan, as part of requirements of grant of planning approval in relation to proposed new walking trails within Cavan Burren Geopark.
Test trenching was carried out within the area of the proposed new trails which pass in close proximity to SMR sites CV004:058 and CV004:026, as being areas of particular archaeological potential, as well as a sample test trench being opened across one of the relic field boundaries across which the walking trails extend, as a means of establishing their potential date/origin.
No archaeological features or deposits were identified within either Test Trenches 1 or 2 and the results of Test Trench 3 proved inconclusive with regards to the potential date or function of the relic field boundary.
