Archaeological monitoring of an E.S.B. pole insertion was carried out at Bullawn, New Ross, Co. Wexford. The new pole was located within the curtilage of the historic town of New Ross, which is a recorded monument (WX029-013). The works necessitated excavating a rectangular hole, c. 0.7m by 0.6m in size, through a concrete footpath. This revealed that the footpath directly overlay bedrock. The bedrock was then broken up using a mechanical jack hammer and a Hydrovac system that employed water and suction to excavate the hole to the required depth. No intact archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were identified and only bedrock was encountered during this excavation.
