Archaeological monitoring was carried out in advance of a single house development at Cooladine, Co. Wexford.
The setting for the development is rural and in a rich archaeological landscape with eight SMR sites located within 500m of the development site, which were uncovered during excavations associated with the M11 road. Planning was granted in 2022 with condition 4 for archaeological monitoring of the groundworks by a licence-eligible archaeologist. The site is located in a field under crop directly adjacent to the new M11 near Enniscorthy. The site is accessed via a 630m lane which also serves a reconstructed pond. The proposed site is approximately 90m west of the M11 embankment on low ground and the western side of the site is bound by trees.
Monitoring of groundworks was carried out over three days in June 2023 to establish if any finds or features of archaeological significance would be impacted upon by the proposed development site. No finds or features of archaeological significance were identified.
