PART OF THE WESTERN-MOST PART OF THE SITE WHICH UNDERWENT TESTING IS WITHIN THE ZONE OF NOTIFICATION OF WA009-008, WHICH IS THE POSSIBLE SITE OF AN ARROASIAN CONVENT DATING TO THE 12TH CENTURY, AND ITS ASSOCIATED GRAVEYARD, (WA009-008 & 008001). THE AUGUSTINIAN NUNNERY, OR ABBEY, OF ST MARY’S OF KILKILLIHEEN, IS NOW SUBSUMED INTO A 19TH-CENTURY CHURCH OF IRELAND CHURCH, ABBEY CHURCH AND ITS GRAVEYARD.
NO ARCHAEOLOGICAL REMAINS WERE EXPOSED DURING THE TESTING. THE ALLUVIAL CLAYS WERE STERILE, COVERED BY TOPSOIL WHICH IN SOME AREAS INCLUDED MADE-UP GROUND. NO FINDS OF ANY DESCRIPTION WERE RETRIEVED IN THE TESTING AND MONITORING.
