Archaeological monitoring, which was preceded by a cultural heritage assessment of Uisce Éireann rationalisation of water mains service between Dunhill and Sporthouse Reservoir, Co. Waterford, identified two locations of archaeological potential impacted by the 7,700m scheme. These were at Killeens Bridge, adjacent to WA025-015, church, and adjacent to Ballyvellon Standing Stone, WA026-001.
It was identified that any groundworks taking place within the zone of archaeological potential should be subject to archaeological monitoring. The groundworks entailed excavation of pits set every 100m to 150m apart, from which horizontal directional drilling took place. In the event, no groundworks occurred within the relevant zones of archaeological potential.
