Archaeological monitoring of water mains replacement works between Faithlegg and Cheekpoint in Co. Waterford was carried out in September 2023.

The water mains replacement works as a whole were sited on local road L4082, from Faithlegg to Cheekpoint. The works commenced at the intersection of the L4082 with Green Road (L4084) in Faithlegg village, extending north-east to the Cheekpoint Reservoir, above Cheekpoint village.

In Faithlegg village (Faithlegg townland and Coolbunnia townland), monitoring was carried out of works, parallel with the Zone of Notification of settlement cluster WA010-020, over a linear distance of approximately 65m; and through the Zone of Notification of the ecclesiastical complex at the medieval parish church of Faithlegg (WA010-020, WA010-003001 to WA010-003005 and WA010-002), which extends to both sides of local road L4084 on the eastern boundary of Faithlegg House, over a linear distance of approximately 195m. At Cheekpoint Reservoir, on the southern approach to Cheekpoint village (Cheekpoint townland)  monitoring was carried out through the Zone of Notification of conjoined enclosures (WA010-001001 and WA010-001002), over a linear distance of approximately 120m.

No features, finds or deposits of archaeological significance were identified during the archaeological monitoring.
