An Archaeological Impact Assessment was prepared as part of the planning process to seek permission to build a dwelling house and undertake associated site works at Ballyknock, Cashel. Due to the location of three recorded archaeological monuments, all of which are classified as enclosures (TS067-007001, TS067-007002 and TS067-007003), within the environs of the site, a limited programme of archaeological testing was implemented as part of an impact assessment. The monuments are located to the south and southeast of the development site with the nearest enclosure of the three located 47m from the house site. This programme of testing was undertaken in conjunction with the archaeological works implemented on the site in 2017 associated with an earlier planning application to build a dwelling house. The 2017 proposal was sited c. 30m to the north of the present planning application and accordingly further away from the three enclosures. No archaeological remains were uncovered in the four test trenches opened on the imprint of the 2017 proposal.

As requested by the National Monuments Service, one test trench was opened on the revised location for the dwelling house. No archaeological remains were uncovered with the only variation from the previous testing works being the revealing of a pocket of natural gravel with stone inclusions occurring at a depth of 400mm in a part of the trench.
