Archaeological monitoring of groundworks associated with the construction of an extension to a dwelling house was undertaken at Graigue Upper, Nenagh. The site is near a ringfort (TN015-077001) and field system (TN015-077002), 35m and 80m respectively from the development site.
A very substantial amount of sub-surface works had been undertaken without an archaeological presence. An examination was undertaken of the area stripped to formation level prior to the completion of the remaining site works. Nothing was identified of archaeological interest from the area stripped and there was no obvious adverse impact of reducing the site to formation level without an archaeological presence. The opening of the strip foundation trenches was archaeologically monitored to ensure they were cut into the natural deposition.
