Archaeological testing was undertaken as part of the planning application process to seek permission to construct a dwelling house and undertake associated site works at Turtualla, Thurles. The requirement for the archaeological works was due to the north-east part of the development site being within the zone of archaeological potential for a ringfort (TN041-066). Located in the north-east part of the field, the ringfort is bounded by the River Poulaneigh on its eastern and northern edges. A very overgrown monument, the nearest point of the proposed house to the ringfort was 29m.
A total of five test trenches were opened. No archaeological remains and/or features were uncovered in the course of the testing works.
