The proposed development works entail the construction of an extension to the rear of a domestic dwelling, driveway, and percolation area at Pullagh, Lavagh, Co. Sligo. The entire site encompasses an area of 0.4895 hectares. The proposed development is in the vicinity of the Zone of Archaeological Notification of RMP SL032-066---- Ringfort Rath. Sligo County Council recommended that an archaeological assessment in the form of testing be undertaken of the impact, including visual impact, of the proposed development on the archaeological remains in the vicinity.
Testing took place on 1 May 2023. Eight test trenches were mechanically excavated across the site in the footprint of the proposed extension, driveway, and percolation area. No deposits, features or material of an archaeological nature were noted in the Proposed Development Area during the test trenching works. The monument has been fenced to maintain a 5m buffer from the driveway to the monument. The driveway was already in existence as access to the existing cottage, and it is proposed to upgrade the surface only, without encroaching on the monument.
