The proposed development site comprises a large field to the south of Ballisodare town. The proposed development will comprise 21 residential units on an elevated site, 0.82 hectares in size. There are several recorded monuments in the vicinity including SL020-257---- Earthwork and SL020-268---- Bridge. SL020-268---- Bridge will not be directly impacted on either physically or visually by the proposed development at Kilboglashy. The proposed development area is within the Zone of Archaeological Notification for SL020-257---- Earthwork.
A programme of pre-development archaeological testing took place on 3 and 6 January 2023. Twelve linear test trenches were excavated at regular intervals across the entire site. No material of an archaeological nature was observed during testing. Because the development area is within the Zone of Archaeological Notification for SL020-257---- Earthwork, it was recommended that archaeological monitoring of topsoil stripping take place. Monitoring took place over various dates from 24 January to 8 March 2023. The topsoil across the entire development area was mechanically removed under archaeological supervision. No material of an archaeological nature including features, deposits or objects were observed during monitoring.
