The development is within the Zone of Archaeological Notification for RMP SL014-303---- Enclosure, which was discovered during testing in 2019 by archaeologist Angela Wallace. The enclosure was left in situ and no works took place in its proximity. Due to the occurrence of an archaeological monument at the site during testing, there was an increased chance of further archaeological material being found. It was therefore recommended that any proposed development at the site be subject to archaeological mitigation in the form of monitoring of groundworks.
Monitoring was conducted under an extension to licence 19E0775 (which wase transferred from Angela Wallace to Tamlyn McHugh) and took place over various dates from November 2022 to March 2023. The soils varied in depth across the site and mainly comprised silty clay under sod over a gravelly subsoil over orange-grey boulder clay substrate with inclusions of moderate small-medium sized stones. No features or deposits of an archaeological nature were observed during the monitoring of groundworks associated with development. However, a number of lithics were found as stray finds in the topsoil.
