As the proposed development was in proximity to the area of archaeological notification around RO010-051 (Mound), Roscommon County Council requested further information, in the form of archaeological testing, conducted across the footprint of the site, prior to the undertaking of any further development, either exempted development or works associated with the current proposal.
This work was carried out in August 2023 in the form of two machine-dug test trenches, spaced 5m apart, to cover the main pipeline and percolation area associated with the proposed site works. Topsoil was on average 150mm depth, which overlay subsoil, a compact loam clay. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered in either of the test trenches examined.
