Archaeological monitoring of topsoil stripping was undertaken during the construction phase across the footprint of a permitted housing development. Targeted archaeological testing was carried out in early 2023 under this licence. The testing revealed the extent of OF017-104 along with human remains (inhumation). This particular area was proposed for preservation in situ. A revised method statement enabled the current licence to be extended to cover archaeological monitoring at the areas affected by the development.
Numerous areas of ground disturbance were observed, such as large potential quarrying pits, trial pits and drains, along with geological variations in the natural subsoil. No archaeological features or deposits were identified during this monitoring programme.
