Excavation took place on 27 and 28 July 2023. Only one of the 15 trenches (Trench 3) could not be excavated, however several trenches required a reduction in length due to underground services. This resulted in excavating 651 linear metres instead of the 795 linear metres proposed.
Topsoil comprised of dark brown, moderately compact silty clay which varied in depth between 0.46-1.2m. It overlay a subsoil of compact brown stoney clay which was interspersed with areas of compact orange brown clay particularly noted in the south-west corner and centre of the site.
Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded during the test excavation.
