This site consists of two green fields located adjacent to and north of the River
Blackwater and the existing Enfield Wastewater Treatment Plant and on the south shore. The townland boundary between Johnstown and Newcastle is formed by a stream that traverses the site. The site is bounded by mature hedgerows, a stream, a wet ditch and a river. The assessment involved the excavation of five test trenches, each measuring 1.8m in width with a total of 475m of linear trenches excavated. The test trenches were excavated to the natural subsoil. No archaeological features or deposits were identified within the excavated trenches and no finds were recovered. A geophysical survey was also carried out under licence 23R0133 and no features were identified. The work is now complete, and no further mitigation is necessary.
