A programme of Archaeological Testing was undertaken with respect to a proposed Poultry House Development in the townland of Doogary (Costello By), Ballyhaunis. The testing was undertaken in part preparation of an Archaeological Impact Assessment requested by the planning authority following a pre-planning consultation.

The overall extent of the planning application area is located approximately 125m to the west of the RMP Zone established for a Ringfort – rath, which incorporates a souterrain and cairn (SMR No: MA081-007).

A total of ten trenches, ranging in length from 40m to 105m, were excavated; the locations of the trenches were largely based on the proposed development layout.

No subsurface features of archaeological interest or potential were uncovered and no artefacts of archaeological or historical interest were recovered in any of the excavated trenches or through raking of the spoil.
