Archaeological Testing was required by the local planning authority given that the development, a slatted shed, was within the Zone of Notification for the ringfort MA 090 – 086, which is subject to statutory protection in the RMP. The test trenches were excavated as per the licence application and method statement. Topsoil varied from 0.2–1m deep in the farmyard area. The natural subsoil varied but mainly comprised of an orange compacted stony subsoil. Monitoring of the works also took place as a precaution; nothing of archaeological significance was found.
