The proposed development entails the construction of a new car display yard, 3 prefabricated office buildings, together with new effluent treatment system to serve the proposed development and adjacent motor dealership buildings and all ancillary site development works at Behybaun, Ballina, Co. Mayo - Connolly Motor Group. The site is a greenfield site with an overall site area of 1.056 ha.
Archaeological testing of the proposed development site was carried out following a further information request set out by the planning section of Mayo County Council. The work has been commissioned in order to determine the archaeological potential of the area and to suggest suitable mitigation measures. It was proposed to excavate linear archaeological test trenches across the entire proposed development area.
Testing took place on 8 May 2023. The site consists of one large expansive and slightly undulating field. The testing scheme entailed the mechanical excavation of 6 linear trenches under archaeological supervision. No material of archaeological significance was noted during the testing programme.
