Pre-development archaeological testing was requested by Mayo County Council in advance of the proposed use of two fields as a landfill site adjacent to the N60 south of Balla village. Six test trenches were excavated to the level of the natural subsoil and no features or finds of archaeological significance were exposed in any of the investigated areas.
