Archaeological monitoring was carried out Rampart Lane, Dundalk, Co. Louth. It is proposed to install electric vehicle charger points at the existing car park of the Dundalk Tennis Club. The development is planning exempt and a part of EV Faster Project (Site 3). A Cultural Heritage Impact Assessment Screening was prepared for the project by John Cronin and Associates (2023), with licenced archaeological monitoring recommended for the site.
A linear area was cleared, and a slot trench opened using a mini digger with a grading bucket and hand tools in line with the proposed plans. The topsoil was found to measure between 0.72m and 0.78m in depth and lay directly above a redeposited grey clay and occasional stone. The soil appeared to be made-up ground and there were services already present in the eastern end of the slot trench, close to the tennis court. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed, and no finds were recovered.
