Archaeological test trenching was carried out on the site at Twenties Lane, Drogheda, Co. Louth. This was informed by a geophysical survey carried out under licence 22R0135. A total of 46 test trenches were excavated within the site. The test trenches targeted anomalies discovered during the geophysical survey. Each trench measured 1.8m in width, and in total 3087m of linear trenching was excavated. The test trenches were excavated down to the natural subsoil. Topsoil measuring between 0.4m to 1.2m in depth was taken down onto the natural subsoil, with the majority of trenches 0.4m to 0.8m deep. The natural subsoil varied. Some pockets of gravel were observed within the natural and accounted for some of the geophysical anomalies. Modern linear ditches were recorded and corresponded with field boundaries depicted on the examined mapping and have since been removed.
An area at the location of the building complex was also assessed, and the foundations and floor of the ancillary building, depicted since the 1834 map, were recorded. An archaeological feature (burnt stone spread C1201) was identified as a result of test trenching. It corresponded with anomalies recorded as ?Archaeology. It measured 7m by 7m and is located in the northern field.
