A programme of archaeological test trenching was undertaken at the proposed development site. The test-trenching works identified 19th-century structural remains, visible on the historic maps. Soil layers were either natural in origin, or infill layers associated with the 19th-century construction and/or demolition. Where natural subsoil was reached there was no evidence for any activity pre-dating the 19th century structures. All material culture identified was modern in origin, consisting of pottery sherds dating to the late 18th to 19th century.
