Archaeological monitoring was proposed for a 17-dwelling housing development with ancillary site works, at a site to the south of Adare village on the west of the Rathkeale Road (N21), Co Limerick.
Due to a misunderstanding of the planning condition on behalf of the developer, topsoil was stripped across the entire site without archaeological oversight. When the site was visited by the licence holder, it was noted that the stripped area had been extensively tracked over by plant making it impossible to say with any certainty whether archaeological deposits were present or absent.
It is therefore impossible to say if the development works impacted on any potential previously unknown archaeological deposits.
