The proposed development is within the Zone of Archaeological Notification for recorded archaeological monuments – Church, Burial Ground & Ecclesiastical Enclosure LE031-039-039003. Testing of the development site was deemed necessary given the proximity to LE031-039-039003 ecclesiastical enclosure.
Archaeological test trenching was conducted on 1 April 2023. A total of seven test trenches of varying lengths and depths were excavated across the entire proposed development area where the house, garage and driveway were proposed. The total area excavated comprised 68m of open test trenches. All trenches were excavated to 1.5m width and were excavated to the underlying natural substrate which, in most of the trenches, comprised a yellowish-grey boulder clay with variations of blackened soil with occasional decayed stone. No archaeological material was noted in the footprint of the development including the location of the driveway, carparking, house and garage.
