Archaeological monitoring of groundworks was undertaken for Uisce Éireann’s Water Network Programme, Sratrissaun South, located c.4.5km to north of Mohill town along the existing R202 road in the townland of Sratrissaun South, Co. Leitrim. The monitoring was carried out on 12 December 2022 and 25 January 2023 at the location of a Cultural Heritage site (a culvert/watercourse).
The groundworks for the Sratrissaun South scheme consisted of a series of access pits associated with directional drilling. The monitoring was carried out on three access pits in the vicinity of the culvert/watercourse, which ranged from 2.5m long x 1.2–1.4m wide x 1.2–2m (in depth). Underlying two layers of modern road surfaces was a layer of natural subsoil consisting of mid-greyish, yellowish brown clay with moderate inclusion of gravel.
No potential archaeological objects, features, deposits or human bones were noted during the archaeological monitoring.
