Archaeological test-trenching was undertaken in advance of a proposed development site in the townland of Maryborough, on land adjacent to the Cedar Clinic, Mountmellick Road, Portlaoise.

Work consisted of five test trenches located across the footprint of the proposed development. This established the presence of a denuded burnt mound spread/possible fulacht fiadh, as well as a number of early modern drainage and agricultural features plus modern demolition activity across the southern and eastern part of the site.

Preservation in situ or ‘by record’ was recommended.
