Archaeological test-excavations were carried out on 22 August 2023, as part of an Archaeological Impact Assessment in relation to the proposed construction of a calf shed and walled dung stead on a greenfield portion of an existing farm complex at Kilmacar, Ballyragget, Co. Kilkenny. The farm complex falls partially within the Zone of Notification (Zone ID: R186181) for a monument cluster (KK010-038001 to KK010-038005) representing historic Kilamcar; though the proposed development site is located c. 30m outside the south-west limits of the Zone of Notification.

Four test-trenches were excavated across the proposed development area. The excavated trenches measured 1.9m in width, 20m in length and 0.3–0.44m in depth. General stratigraphy comprised 0.15m of sod over 0.25m of light grey-brown silty-sandy topsoil, overlying a natural subsoil layer comprising moderately compact, mottled grey-orange clay silt with occasional small-sized sub-angular stones.

No archaeological finds, features or deposits were found during testing.
