2023:116 - MONREAD NORTH, Kildare

Licensed archaeological testing was undertaken at Monread North, Naas, Co. Kildare in early June 2023 on the footprint of a proposed solar PV Energy development known as Kerdiffstown Solar Farm. A series of 24 test trenches with a total length of c.440m was opened with a 13-ton track machine utilising a 1.8m-wide flat grading bucket under archaeological supervision. The recorded matrix in all twenty-four excavated test trenches was very similar and consisted of dark grey topsoil with frequent small and mid-sized stone inclusions. The exposed subsoil was mainly dark to mid-grey clay with some patches of dark orange from time to time.

No archaeological features or deposits were noted in any of the trenches and no artefacts were found.
