Archaeological monitoring of groundworks for a proposed Medical Centre renovation and extension at Barretstown Castle, Co. Kildare took place between 22 March and 2 May 2023.
Archaeological monitoring of the ground reductions took place intermittently, as works required. The surface was removed from the footprint of the extension (c.50m x 7.5m, 375m2). Removed material was partially topsoil, forming well-managed lawn and the gravel path. Excavated material appeared to be made ground overlaying light greyish-brown silty clay (subsoil).
No features, finds or deposits of archaeological significance were identified during the course of monitoring.
