The archaeological excavation at Creegooane was undertaken in October 2023 as a result of the discovery of single area of archaeology during licensed monitoring of topsoil stripping associated with Phase 6 of an extension to Ardfert Quarry. The area of archaeology (Area 4) was discovered at the eastern limits of the site north-east of previously discovered Areas 1–3 (Dunne et al. 2021 & 2023). A total of fifteen features including eight pits, three post-holes and four stake-holes were fully excavated and recorded. The vast majority of the pits consisted of charcoal deposits and heat-affected stone inclusions. Six soil samples were recovered. Post-processing is currently on-going and will be follow by the specialist analysis and report. No artefacts were recovered from Area 4.
