Archaeological testing was undertaken at the proposed development site (PDS) at Aghacarrible, Lispole, Co. Kerry over one day in early December 2023 in rainy weather conditions. A recorded monument, a burial KE054-022, is situated within the PDS and zone of notification (ZON) of a cist, KE054-020 abuts the PDS.
Six test trenches (T1-T6) with a total meterage of c.244m were opened with back-acting 14-tonne machine using a 1.9m wide flat grading bucket on the testable limits of the PDS. All topsoil was incrementally removed. Removed topsoil was average 0.3m deep, comprised of soft mid-greyish brown material which covered orange, very stony clayey sand subsoil. Nothing of archaeological interest was noted and no artefacts were recovered during testing.
