A programme of archaeological test trenching was undertaken at Drom West townland, section 1B of the South Kerry Greenway, Co. Kerry.
One trench in Area 5 showed possible archaeological evidence—Trench 7, in Field 5 at the western end of the testing area. This comprised of a possible souterrain or large field drain constructed of substantial parallel sidewalls (C004) with capstones (C005) along a north–south orientation. Perpendicular to the western side wall was a possible line of small sub-rounded stones (C006).
The features are situated between two enclosures (KE063-015 and KE063-016). The closest one (KE063-016) is 60m in diameter and located approximately 96m to the south-east. The second enclosure is located approximately 235m to the north-west.
It is difficult to discern the exact nature of the archaeological features identified, due to limited archaeological investigations. Its nature can only be confirmed by further archaeological excavations.
