Archaeological testing at Doon West, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry was undertaken with regard to extension of existing caravan park. A recorded monument, KE004-013, classified as a ringfort and an associated hut site KE004-013001 forms part of the northern boundary of the proposed development site. A series of 8 test trenches, extending for c.700m was opened across the footprint of the proposed development. Trenches T1-T3 were opened within the south-east limits of zone of notification of Ringfort KE004-013. Topsoil was incrementally removed under archaeological supervision using a 6-tonne track machine utilising a 1.6m wide flat grading bucket.
Nothing of archaeological interest was noted in any of the test cuttings and no artefacts were recovered.
