Archaeological monitoring of excavations associated with the Ardderroo Wind Farm development took place between September 2021 and April 2023. The development comprises the construction of twenty-five wind turbines and associated infrastructure in the townlands of Ardderroo, Letter and Finnaun, Co. Galway. The development site is an upland area comprised primarily of commercial forestry plantation. GA067-021 (Enclosure), the only recorded monument within the development site boundary, is located over 250m from the nearest windfarm infrastructure. A 30m buffer was established around the monument and fenced off prior to construction works to highlight the location of the monument.

The archaeology and cultural heritage assessment identified several cultural heritage sites within the development site boundary, including three small clachan-type settlements. Potential direct impacts on these sites were mitigated by design, after the location of these sites was highlighted to the project design team and constrained out of consideration for the siting of turbines and associated infrastructure.

No archaeology was found during monitoring of groundworks.
