Archaeological monitoring (a fifth phase of archaeological mitigation measures undertaken on the subject site by John Cronin & Associates) of additional ground reductions and service trench excavations was carried out within the site between 18 October 2022 and 28 February 2023. Nothing of an archaeological nature was revealed during the additional groundworks. This was largely due to a redesign of foundation elements and an actual increase in the construction formation level of the project (up to 1m) from that envisaged prior to the commencement of the monitoring programme.
Consequently, outside of the attenuation tank area and a delivery ramp in the north-western corner of the site, no further largescale ground reductions were required across the site, including within the footprint of the store area.
This final phase of archaeological mitigation measures also resulted in the preservation and protection of the lower portions of the well feature revealed and excavated during Phases 3 & 4 of the mitigation programme.
