The development site is located within the Zone of Archaeological Potential associated with two recorded monuments: DU019-027 (Fort) and DU019-029 (Sea Wall).
Archaeological monitoring took place in August 2023. A total of five Boreholes, two Slit Trenches and one Trial Pit were excavated along the Pigeon House Road.
Works failed to reveal any features of archaeological significance, and no remains of the Sea Wall were uncovered within the Site Investigation trench in Pidgeon House Road, where it was expected. Instead, a thick shuttered concrete right was found in the location where the historic wall was expected; therefore, further investigations are required in this area in order to clarify if the wall was removed within this location during construction of the concrete right, or encased within it.
