Archaeological monitoring was completed in advance of a development at 11-12 York Road, Dublin 4. The site was partially inside the Zone of Archaeological Constraint for Recorded Monument DU018-066 (sea wall).  Deposits across the site were reduced between 1.2m and 1.5m from existing ground level. Two deposits were identified, the uppermost (0.65m deep) comprised mid-brown to reddish garden soil with frequent dumps of yellow Dolphin’s Barn brick, concrete and building rubble, loose cut limestone blocks, post-medieval pottery, animal bone and modern rubbish. Immediately below this was a soft and very fine grey clay with occasional pockets of fine gravel and mollusc shell. This was likely a naturally occurring alluvium and extended below the level of ground reduction. A north-south orientated plot boundary wall ran down the centre of the site.  No evidence of DU018-066 was found within the site and no archaeological features were identified.
