Archaeological testing was carried out on July 31, 2023 at Newcastle South, County Dublin to study the impact, if any, on the archaeological and historical resource of a proposed residential development. It follows a previous archaeological assessment report carried out in February 2023. Testing was carried out using a mechanical excavator fitted with a flat, grading bucket. The subsoil was a compact yellow clayey sand with occasional cobbles and decayed stone. The topsoil was a mid-brown sandy clay with modern debris intermixed, particularly in the centre-east of the site; this was most visible in Trenches 4 and 6. The average depth of topsoil across site was 0.2m. Later interference was identifiable in the south of the site, in the form of modern pits/narrow trenches containing metal and plastic debris.

Testing uncovered no finds or features of archaeological significance, and confirmed that the site has been heavily impacted upon by previous modern work.
